Dear parents:
Thank you for viewing bamboo garden blog. Please welcome our two new children, Kieran and Nicolas. They are our new bamboo gardeners. Here is our schedule for bringing books from home for full-day children: (I apologize for changing the schedule; I try to give everyone an opportunity to share their books from home. If your child would like to bring books about Chinese New Year, that would be great to share with the whole class. Thanks.)
Monday: Luca
Tuesday: Kai
Wednesday: Jaden
Thursday: Kieran
Friday: Nicolas
* Thank you for understanding if your child is not on the schedule. We will take turns. Thanks.
This week, we had so much fun introducing Chinese New Year.
Story: 年兽来了
Music: 恭喜 恭喜
Activity (PE): 年兽来了,怎么办?
Monday (Jan. 5th): (Social Study, language) We told a story about Chinese New Year, and learned how and why we have Chinese New Year. What is “年兽” afraid of ? Red, noise, and light (红色,吵,灯光).
Tuesday (Jan. 6th): (PE, art) We had some examples of what 年兽 is afraid of, such as red paper (red), playing instruments (noise), flashlight (light). We tried to look around the classroom and see what might scare away 年兽。
Wednesday (Jan. 7th): (art) We imagined what fireworks sound like and used our body movement to imagine how fireworks move. And we had an art project using straws to blow the paint color on the paper like a firework.
Thursday (Jan. 8th): (music) We introduced the song 恭喜 恭喜。
Friday (Jan, 9th): (social study, language): We introduced “lion dance and dragon dance” by watching a video and children decorated the body of a dragon.
Next week, we will have more time to discover what are the good words to say while meeting people during Chinese New Year and what do they mean?
谢谢
