Greetings Parents,

Hooray! Our 100th day in Shu Ren International School arrived! Thank you Teacher Lisa Jean who conducted this wonderful activity. We had lots of fun on the 100th day in school. Please check out our 100th day celebration pictures. Time goes by fast. We already spent more than100 days in Shu Ren. My memory is still fresh and I remember our first day of school. I appreciate having an opportunity to work with the children and watch them learn, laugh, cry, and play.

Party of the 100th day in Shu Ren School

The Plum Garden weekly subject planners are listed below.
Language: We will continue to learn vocabularies and phrases in Lesson 5, 悄悄话 / Whispering. In this lesson, the students will learn different sounds from nature. For example, the sound of the leaves, trees swaying in the wind, birds chirping, and the sound of rain falling. Lesson 5 reading material has already sent home with each child last Wednesday. Please help your child to review their Chinese lesson at home. It would be very helpful for your child to review their reading log for 10 to 15 minutes everyday. The children will learn new vocabularies from our weekly inquiry: 我的房间有什么摆设和什么是我梦想中的房间? / What is the interior appearance of my bedroom and dream room?
Math: This week, we will review “排顺序, 比多少 / Number order and compare the numbers.” On Wednesday, we will start a new section “分与合 / Separation and combination.” Separation and combination (decomposition and synthesis) are the basic operation concepts to solve the quantity problems. In the first of this math section, we will play the “Birthday Party Game” to solve the quantity problems and children will know how to use separation and combination to calculate the numbers within 10. The children will learn and understand through the game how decomposition and synthesis work. They will gain their addition and subtraction concepts from the specific examples of problems. Also, the children will learn how to use “0” and know that 0 means none.
Science and Life Science: We will continue to experiment with kitchen science. This will be a three week-long science project. The inquiries of kitchen science project are:
• Little seasoning master.
• Dessert expert.
• How to store foods
Last week, we did a few experiments about “Where does sugar go?” and “Which seasoning dissolves in the water?” This week in dessert expert experiment, we will make Jell-O. Children will discover how the ingredient measurement changes will affect the food’s taste, texture and appearance.

We are the food detective
Art: Tomorrow will be St. Patrick’s Day. We made a green Leprechaun hat to celebrate this Irish holiday and the children are encouraged to wear green everywhere. We will continue our last watercolor painting project—Where do I live? This art project is divided into three parts. The children will learn how to draw their own home, garden, and neighborhood. They will learn how to combine their three paintings into one complete painting. This week the students will draw their neighborhood.
Social Studies and PSE: We will introduce different occupations to the children. They will learn that different jobs have different roles and those roles are very important to our community and society. The children will also learn how to be a good house helper and will learn how to properly clean their bedrooms.
Singing: We will sing two songs “家 / Home” and “我的家 / My family.”
谢谢! Thank you! ☺
Kai
