For the past two weeks, we have wrapped up our unit on “Small Hands and Feet,” briefly talked about Thanksgiving, and started our new unit on “My Family.”
Language/Reading: Stories and Vocabulary- How do we protect our hands and feet?/Thanksgiving/ Who is in your family?
We read many books related to hands and feet, such as how to protect them. We learned that we wash hands (洗手)to protect our hands and wear shoes (穿鞋子) to protect our feet. We also read stories about Thanksgiving and learned about the different foods we eat, such as turkey (火鸡), corn (玉米), cranberry sauce (蔓越莓), green beans (四季豆), pumpkin pie (南瓜派), etc. This week, we read stories about family and learned the words for mom (妈妈), dad (爸爸), older and younger brother (哥哥,弟弟), and older and younger sister (姐姐,妹妹).
Mathematics: Matching and Graphs
For Thanksgiving, we played a memory game that reinforced the idea of finding pairs that matched. The concept of graphing was also reinforced. We made a graph of how many people we have in our family.
Science: Protecting our hands and feet/Cooking
How do we protect our hands and feet? We explored the answer to this question by brainstorming ideas and going over a poster with suggestions. We also made “Happy Face Sandwich(es).” The recipe is below:
Supplies: plate, butter knife
Ingredients: Strawberry Jelly, Bananas (sliced), Raisins, Bread (1 slice), Mini-Pretzels
Directions: Spread the jelly on the slice of bread. Next, put 2 banana circles on the bread to look like eyes. Then use a mini-pretzel as a nose. Last, make a mouth out of raisins.
Music: 动一动 and 感恩节歌
We continued to practice “动一动.”
动动头来,动动脚
扭扭屁股,扭扭腰
小手跟小脚问声好
小脚高兴得到处跑。
We also learned a new Thanksgiving song (感恩节歌)that goes to the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
我家的农场有火鸡,
Gobble Gobble Gobble Gobble Gobble Gobble Gobble,
他有一身彩色外衣,
红色,黄色,橘色,蓝色,
感恩节到了真开心,
爸爸妈妈谢谢你。
Body Movement: 动一动 and 感恩节歌
We have been doing body movements with our song, “动一动” and “感恩节歌。”
Art: Playdough Hand Print and Thanksgiving Crafts
We made hand prints out of yellow playdough. Then to celebrate Thanksgiving, we made a turkey, a Tee-Pee out of brown construction paper, and a collage of common Thanksgiving foods.
Next week, we will continue our second unit, and talk about different kinds of families and make a family tree.
Thanks,
Katherine
