For the past two weeks, we have continued to explore our unit on “Small Hands and Feet.”
Language/Reading: Stories and Vocabulary- Hands and Feet
We read many books related to hands and feet, such as what we can do with our hands and feet and how to protect them. We learned that we can wash hands (洗手), hold utensils (拿筷子), draw/write (写字和画画), build blocks (搭积木), and read (看书)with our hands. We also learned that we can dance (跳舞), ride a bike (骑自行车), jump (跳), run (跑), and walk (走) with our feet. We also learned the name for thumb (大拇指), index finger (食指), middle finger (中指), fourth finger (无名指), and pinky (小指).
Mathematics: Graphs
The concept of graphing was introduced. First we made individual graphs of what we can do with our hands and feet. Then we followed-up with a class graph. Counting was reinforced during this activity.
Science: Comparing Different Hands and Fingerprints
Do animals have hands and feet? What do animals do with their hands and feet? Do they do the same things that we do? To find the answers to these questions, we explored the appearance of different hands and feet. We also discussed how animals use their hands and feet.
What do our fingerprints look like? To explore the answer to this question, we learned the names for our fingers and used an inkpad to make fingerprints.
Music: 动一动
We learned a new song called “动一动.”
动动头来,动动脚
扭扭屁股,扭扭腰
小手跟小脚问声好
小脚高兴得到处跑。
Body Movement: 动一动 and Color Dot Game
We have been doing body movements with our song, “动一动.” We also played a game where the students did different movements with their hands and feet on different colored dots. For instance, you clap your hand if you are standing on an orange dot or you jump once if you are standing on a green dot.
Art: Dot Painting
Since we were learning about what we can do with our hands, we used finger painting to decorate a flower. We used our fingers and hands to paint our flower.
Next week, we will finish our first unit of study, “Small Hands and Small Feet.” Then we will briefly talk about Thanksgiving before starting our second unit of study, “My Family.”
Thanks,
Katherine
