Winnie Bear Newsletter – February 26, 2010
Dear Winnie Bear Families,
For the past week, we talked about hermit crabs and the Olympics.
Language: Vocabulary
Below is a list of theme specific vocabulary words that have been introduced:
1. Hermit Crab – 寄居蟹 (ji ju xie)
2. Olympics – 奥运 (ao yun)
3. Ice Skating – 滑冰 (hua bing)
4. Medalist – 优胜者 (you sheng zhe)
5. Skiing – 滑雪 (hua xue)
6. Torch Bearer – 圣火专递者 (sheng huo zhuan di zhe)
Reading: Stories
We read a few books on the Olympics and the different winter sports. We also read “A House for Hermit Crab” by Eric Carle.
Mathematics: 100 Day
We counted our 100 day items and made a 100 day paper quilt.
Science: Hermit Crabs
We introduced our new friends to the children and spent some time discussing what a hermit crab needs to live. What kinds of food do they eat? Do they drink water? Where do they sleep? What do they need in their home?
Art: Olympic Flag
We spent some time talking about the Olympic flag and the colors on the flag. We then colored in our own Olympic flag.
Body Movement/ P.E.:
We spent some time discussing the different sports and what our bodies look like when we do those sports. We then tried to imitate the movements. We also played a few relay games.
Next week, we will be starting our new unit of inquiry, “Trees.”
Thanks,
Katherine
