Summer Camp
A Fun-Filled Learning Experience for Children in four two-week sessions between June 21 – August 13
Camps for pre-K students (ages 3 – 4) and for students K and up (ages 5 – 10)
Beginning and Intermediate/Advanced Classes (ages 5-10 group)
Learning Mandarin through stories, songs, games, arts and crafts, martial arts and field trips
Curriculum
During each two-week session, students learn Mandarin language skills and Chinese cultural knowledge through fun, immersion-based activities. These include music, dances, stories, arts and crafts, martial arts and so on. Teachers speak in Mandarin with gestures and with their bodies, so children understand the tasks at hand.
For K+ students, the beginner class is better suited for students without any prior knowledge of Mandarin who are interested in acquiring the basic listening and speaking skills. The intermediate/advanced class is ideal for students who have acquired the basic listening and speaking skills and want to learn more vocabulary and sentences through fun games, reading, and writing.
Shu Ren International School is excited to have teachers from DJ Wind Chinese Music Academy offer Chinese Music lessons to our Summer Camp (for the 5-10 year-old age group) this year, with no extra charge for full-day campers. DJ Wind Chinese Music Academy was founded by the Bay Area’s well-known Dizi (Chinese flute) performer, educator, and conductor Mr. Ding Jian. The Academy focuses on the education of traditional Chinese wind and percussion music and helps students acquire multiple artistic skills, develop students’ abilities, spark interest and enjoyment in music, and provide all students an opportunity to perform on stage. Classes offered:
Drum (Tuesdays and Fridays, 1pm – 1:50pm)
The history of Chinese percussion instruments is longer than any other type of traditional Chinese instruments. Common materials used for making percussion instruments in the past were gold, rock, wood and bamboo. Due to the richness of the timbre, the sound and variety of Chinese percussion instruments are frequently used in Western-style musical compositions. This class is for beginners and students with no previous experience.Choir (Tuesdays and Fridays, 2pm – 2:50pm)
The purity of children’s voices is extremely powerful and moving in choral art. This discipline broadens children’s artistic vista, raises their level of artistic maturity and enriches their spirits. We will teach students basic skills of singing, basal tones and vocal styles and Chinese folk songs.
Please contact the School for cost if you are interested in signing up for the Music classes only.
